A member of Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club has been awarded a prestigious fellowship by members of his club, recognising his long standing contribution to the community through his role as former president and current secretary of the club, as well as his efforts towards the annual Newquay Beer Festival which has now raised over £80,000 for good causes since 2013.
The Melvyn Jones Fellowship is awarded at the discretion of each Lions Club through Lions Clubs International Foundation which supports large-scale projects that address unmet humanitarian needs for entire communities. These projects are led by local Lions who identify the need, develop the plan of action and carry out the project.
Lion Phil Bunt, was given the award by the Lions District Governor for the South West, Lesley Chudley, at the club’s recent Charter Night at the Sandy Lodge Hotel.

Phil said: “It had been a well kept secret and I was absolutely taken aback when I was called up to receive the award. I felt really honoured to receive it but made the point to all my fellow Lions, how much any award like this reflects on all of us and not just one person. We are able to what we do as a team and I am delighted to have played a part in it.
