Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club have a new president after the term of their president for the past two years ended at the weekend.
Lion Phil Bunt handed over the chain of office to Lion Colin Ransley at a social gathering of the club at the home of Colin and his wife Lion Ann in Pentire. Also in attendance were friends and relatives as well as members from Roche Lions Club who originally sponsored the establishment of the Newquay club in 2008.
Phil said: “I have had so much support over the past couple of years and the club has come on in leaps and bounds. We have now established a number of key community events each year which give us the chance to support others through our services or fund raising. These include the Brains of Newquay quiz, Last Man Standing, the Christmas Community Lunch, Easter egg Raffle and, our biggest event, Newquay Beer Festival which happens again this September.
“Colin will be a great president I know and with the help of everyone in the club I am sure we will be able to support local charities and good causes even more in the future.”
President Colin Ransley said: “After enjoying two years of achievement and success we aim to continue in the inspiring vein of activity and fun which Phil led us through. Our club and members work for the good of the local community and those who might want to join us will be given a very warm welcome – just visit our website to find out more or contact us.”
Colin was also delighted to congratulate Lion Barbara Hannan on becoming his vice-president and thanks were offered to Lion Lesley Clarke who was standing down from her position as secretary having become the vice district governor for the south west of England.
