Members of Newquay Towan Blystra Lions spent the afternoon at Newquay Rowing Club, and took part in it’s annual charity gig race, raising money for the Children’s Hospice South West Precious Lives Appeal.

Now in it’s twelth year, the event invites local organisations and businesses to try their hand at Pilot Gig Rowing, and compete against each other in a race across Newquay Bay.

Lions Andy Hannan, Barbara Hannan and Colin Ransley represented the club, and other crews this year included Kingsley Village, Dial-a-Move, CHSW, The Cornwall Blind Rowing Association, The Newquay Voice and Cornish Guardian.

After the event, presentations were made to Mary Murfin, from the charity. The first was for £80 from the Cornwall Blind Rowing Association. The second, was from Newquay Rowing Club for £780. This was collected through various club events throughout the year, and a collection at the bar. This was presented by Rowing Club Secretary Philip Trebilcock.
