Three Newquay Towan Blystra Lions members took to the high-seas, to help raise money for a popular and worthwhile charity.

Lions Phil Bunt, Andy Hannan and Barbara Hannan were invited to take part in the annual invitational gig race, organised by Newquay Rowing Club and raising money for Childrens Hospice South West.

They were amongst crews from The Newquay Voice, Pirate FM, CHSW, Newquay Towan Blystra Lions, Dial-A-Move, The Well Cafe in Cubert and the Cornwall Rowing Association for the Blind (CRAB).

The one-mile row started at the eastern marker just off Lusty Glaze Beach, and came back to the finish line to the cheers of the waiting spectators lining the harbour wall.

The winners were the CRAB team, with Dial-a-Move coming in second place.

Third was the crew from the Well Cafe, followed by The Headland Hotel (4th), CHSW (5th and 6th).

Newquay Towan Blystra Lions came a respectable 7th, followed by Pirate FM in 8th and the Newquay Voice Newspaper in 9th.

CHSW is a fantastic cause, and one of many local charities that Newquay Towan Blystra Lions is proud to support. You can find out more about them on their website here.
