Twenty-six deserving families from across the UK have been treated to a special week in Newquay, hosted by the resort’s two Lions Club.

Each year, Newquay Lions and Newquay Towan Blystra Lions invite the deserving families for a free holiday, full of fun and activities based at Hendra Holiday Park. Each family is nominated and sponsored by their local Lions club, and local firms give their time and efforts generously to help them enjoy the week.

“It’s been a fantastic week,” said organiser Lion Andy Hannan.

“The weather was a challenge, but to honest i think we worried about it more than they did! We had to move a few things around but all the activities were well-attended, and everybody’s had a good time.”

Amongst the activities laid on by the Lions, included surf lessons, horse riding, as well as visits to Lappa Valley, Dairyland, the Blue Reef Aquarium and Crealy. There were also many activities based at Hendra as well, including swimming, dancing in the club, karaoke and special cream tea, BBQ and pasty suppers.

“We’ve had some really good feedback from the families. Some nice comments about how it’s brought the family together, we’ve had a really good time.” Andy continued.

The event has now been running for a number of years, and each year has been growing in popularity. This year, families came from as far afield as Rochdale and Liverpool, and a total of 26 caravans were occupied for the week.

“It’s become so popular that we’ve had to turn a couple of clubs away. We actually had a waiting list and we extended it by one more van. We only go out to clubs that support us on a regular basis. If we made this national, we could probably fill this entire site.” Andy added.

There are a number of local supporters, without whom this event would not go ahead.  Amongst these are Hendra Holiday Park who do us a great deal on the caravans and provide loads of other facilities free or at reduced cost. Then there are the theme parks of Crealy, Dairyland and Lappa Valley plus the Blue Reef Aqarium who are all always happy to help.

Images Photography are once again sending families home with family portraits to remember the week and a big thank you also needs to go to Mark Farrell at Quiksilver Surf School for the surf tuition, Janet Crocker at Trenance Riding Stables for the horse riding, Hutton Hire for the BBQ equipment loan, Crantock Bakeries for their donation of pasties, Roddas for the cream on the scones which Carole Phillips baked, Sadie Phillips for the beautiful singing and Summercourt Travel.
