Lions Clubs International held their annual District 105SW forum at Okehampton on Sunday and two of Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club’s youngest members received a hugely warm welcome as they gave an inspiring presentation on the establishment of the club’s Leo section.
Youth coordinator, Lion Jodie Ward and Leo Vice President Samantha Blake both impressed an audience of over 80 Lions club members from across the whole of the south west as they explained how the Leos club, the only one in Cornwall and Devon, had been established and talked about some of the community service activities they had been involved with over the past few months.
Towan Blystra Lions president Phil Bunt who was in the audience said: “Jodie and Sam made me very proud as they, not only spoke articulately, passing on concise and interesting information but both injected an element of humour into their presentations which had everyone onside as they listened to their experiences.
“I know from speaking to other Lions how impressed they were with what they did and they have certainly inspired at least one other Lions club in Cornwall to plan to develop a Leos club themselves,” he said.
The Lions Autumn Forum, at which the pair spoke, is an important annual event in the district events planning calendar and this year’s theme of Celebrating Success leant itself well to the Leos theme, resulting in those present appreciating that the future of Lionism is safe and growing in the hands of young people like Jodie and Sam.
