Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club have made a £480 donation to Lusty Surf Life Saving Club (LSLSC) to purchase a quantity of essential Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) UK rescue tubes.
The tubes are used to support both conscious and unconscious patients who have got into difficulty in the water and need rescuing – dependent on conditions, timing and availability, a rescue would be performed with any one of, or combination of, IRB, jet-ski, rescue board, rescue tube. LSLSC teach rescue techniques to children in the club and prospective lifeguards using the rescue tubes, and they are also used as safety aids by our team of helpers when children are in the water.
Members of the Lions, including Stephen Williams, Wendy Bonfield, Colin Wellington, Phil Bunt and Matt Bunt met up with members of the Lusty club on Sunday morning after their training session and presented a ‘cheque’ to signify the donation as some of the young people took pride in waving some of the tubes for all to see.
