A special Christmas Draw, supported by numerous local businesses and individuals, has raised £1,500 for good causes, including the groups nominated as recipients of funds from Chrissie’s Sunshine Appeal.

Organised by Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club, tickets have been on sale for the last seven weeks and fifty prizes in total were donated with the draw being made at this year’s Community Christmas Lunch at the Marguson Sandy Lodge Hotel. Amongst these were a Dip and Dine Experience for two at Newquay’s iconic Headland Hotel, many vouchers to enjoy free meals at restaurants and pubs around the area and a wide variety of other prizes including a 12-month digital subscription to any of the Voice newspapers.
Chrissie’s Sunshine Appeal was established by the late Chrissie Jackson who co-founded the Newquay Voice newspaper. She passed away in 2021 after a brave two year fight against Cancer but, during that time, raised over £50,000 for the appeal which was administered by Towan Blystra Lions, in which Chrissie was an honorary Lion.
Lions treasurer, Phil Bunt, said: “We are delighted to keep Chrissie’s memory and legacy alive in this way. Chrissie had identified a number of worthwhile causes she wished to see supported and continuing to help them in this way is very much in line with what Lions are all about. Chrissie also wanted funds raised to be used by the Lions to help other local groups and we will continue to do this in her memory too.”
