First and Second Lions Vice District Governors for the South West, Richard Allen of Budleigh Salterton and Phil Bunt of Newquay Towan Blystra met up at the Callington store of ‘Sending Love to Ukraine’ (SLTU) and helped with the sorting of the vast number of items to be transported across to Ukraine during the next couple of weeks. On 13 July, Phil, fellow Newquay Lion Peter Bragg and close friend Nick Morgan will be joining the next convoy of ten vehicles to cross to Warsaw where the supplies will be taken onwards to Ukraine. These convoys carry supplies which have been donated from individuals and business across the area and the founder and coordinator of SLTU, Darren Tait of Darren’s Cars is also a member of Callington Lions. A wide variety of supporters, including Lions Clubs and the drivers themselves, pay all the costs associated with hire of vans, ferry crossings, accommodation, fuel and food to enable the 5/6 day trips to go ahead and the convoy leaving in July will be number 25 since the appeal started, representing an amazingly consistent effort on behalf of thousands of people to support those in need.
