Cricketers benefit from different grants
Newquay Cricket Club members were delighted to pose for a photo before their match at Newquay Sports Centre on Saturday 9 September, as Towan Blystra Lions Club members attended to present the club with a cheque for £350.
The donation came from two of the Lions Club funds – £250 being their quarterly grants money which local not-for-profit groups can appeal to every three months, and the Lions Brains of Newquay Quiz at which quizzers from the cricketers won £100. But there was another member of the Lions Club there in a different capacity with more good news.
Newquay and Cornwall Councillor, and Lion, Kevin Towill (pictured 2nd from right) was on hand to add another donation from his own community fund, making the total amount the cricket club benefitted from the generosity of local donations.
Towan Blystra Lions Club vice president Jon Collins presented the cheque to Graeme Booth of Newquay Cricket Club and said: “We are delighted to support groups like the cricket club as they provide such a positive and stimulating environment across such a wide age range from school children through to those of retirement age.”
The donations have helped the cricket club with some major expenditure this year, including a new tractor for maintaining the field.
