Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club have decided to postpone their plans for the annual Brains of Newquay charity give-away quiz from the planned date in February to later in the year.

The quiz, which first started ten years ago, has conventionally been a summer event. However, with it not having been able to take place in 2020 and 2021, the Lions were keen to provide a winter outing for the popular quiz which sees teams play on behalf of local charities and good causes to win donations of up to £400.

Lion Phil Bunt, who has been quizmaster for many of the Brains of Newquay gatherings said: “We made the decision to run a February event, as long ago as November when we all felt we were seeing the end of the a coronavirus issues but when December came, things started to change.

“We decided that we wouldn’t want teams feeling uncomfortable in attending unless there was more confidence that things would be safe and, whilst it appears the country is hopefully going that way, we felt our plans for February may have been more optimistic than they have turned out to be,” Phil concluded.

The event was due to take place on Sunday 27 February at Newquay Golf Club and the Lions are most appreciative of that club’s flexibility in supporting their change of plans. A new date will now be confirmed for sometime during the summer period and possibly link to either HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend or in support of other plans for seasonal events put on in the town.
