Lions President Lion Phil Bunt

Every month, Lions President Lion Phil Bunt writes a column for the popular Free Trader publication, which is delivered to every home in the Newquay area. Here is this month’s offering:

It’s been a good September with our normal ongoing fund raising and service activities taking place plus, as I write this, there are 26 caravans at Hendra full of deserving families from around the country enjoying Lions hospitality.

Each year ourselves and Newquay Lions invite other Lions clubs and organisations to sponsor families to come and spend a week with us and local firms give their time and efforts generously to help them enjoy the week. Amongst these are, of course, Hendra Holiday Park who do us a great deal on the caravans and provide loads of other facilities free or at reduced cost.

Then there are the theme parks of Crealy, Dairyland and Lappa Valley plus the Blue Reef Aqarium who are all always happy to help us. Images Photography are once again sending families home with family portraits to remember the week and a big thank you also needs to go to Mark Farrell at Quiksilver Surf School for the surf tuition, Janet Crocker at Trenance Riding Stables for the horse riding, Hutton Hire for the BBQ equipment loan, Crantock Bakeries for their donation of pasties, Roddas for the cream on the scones which Carole Phillips baked, Sadie Phillips for the beautiful singing and Summercourt Travel.

Finally, to all my fellow Lions in both clubs who gave their time so willingly during the week.

I mentioned last month that we were presenting a Johnny Cowling evening with the Glendorgal Hotel at their Watermark suite on Friday November 9. Well, since then I have been besieged with requests for more information and I can now reveal that entry to the evening will be by donation to Cornwall Air Ambulance on the door with a suggested donation of £5 a head. Great value by anyone’s standards and especially for those who know just what a top quality entertainer Johnny Cowling is.

There will be raffles etc on the night. If you do want any further information though please let me know.

Time does seem to fly faster when you get older doesn’t it? It just doesn’t seem like a year ago that we were planning our Christmas activities, but here we are already! Keep an eye out for us and Santa Claus as we get nearer the festive period – there will be sweets and gifts galore for the little ones and we could be popping up in some interesting places too!!

If you would like to know some more about what we do or find out about joining us then please have a look at the website or telephone me on 0845 833 4981 or 01637 875532.
