Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Support Cornwall’s Rising Badminton Stars

The Newquay Towan Blystra Lions were proud to support a team of talented young badminton players from Cornwall as they competed in the prestigious Inter County Tournament in Nottingham earlier this year.

Thanks to the club’s sponsorship, a team of nine players — five boys and four girls — were able to represent Cornwall in the event, widely regarded as one of the highlights of the junior badminton calendar. Over four intense days of competition, the team faced opponents from ten different counties, giving each player the opportunity to test their skills in a highly competitive environment.

“We are always amazed at the cost of sending a team from Cornwall to this tournament,” said coach Penny Foulds. “Without the generous support of sponsors like Towan Blystra Lions, the financial burden on parents and players would have been even greater. Your contribution made a real difference.”

The week proved a valuable learning experience for both players and coaches, with clear signs of development and determination throughout the team. Every player won at least one game — an improvement on last year — and the tournament ended on a high as Cornwall secured a victory over Worcestershire, reversing last year’s final-day result.

Penny added, “The players (and coaches!) really enjoyed the experience. We were proud to see their progress as they rose to the challenge of competing against strong opposition.”
