Members of Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club met at Harbour Hill, Newquay to mark the opening of the club’s new wishing well. Santa turned up to do the honour of rolling the first coin into the fun vortex and declared the attraction officially open. In attendance were Mark, Kay and Jim of Bayly Builders plus Matt of Inox Stainless and Aluminium, both companies that had played important parts in the development of the well and donated all or parts of their services to help support the Lions in raising money for local good causes. The site used had, for many years, been a well established by Newquay Round Table. However, when that charity closed in 2005, the well began to fall into disrepair and, a few years ago, Towan Blystra Lions took over the area and set about removing the old structure and designing something new. Lion President Jon Collins thanked everyone concerned and said that the well had been inspired by an idea of recently deceased Lion Lesley Baize MJF. The plaque above the well pays tribute to this.
