We are super excited to announce the launch of our Georgia’s Voice Newquay support group for young women aged 18-25 with mental health concerns.

This morning Emma and Tuesday from Georgia’s Voice met with the Newquay Towan Blystra Lions to accept a generous donation of £500 of which £250 will be set aside to the Newquay support group. This will be used to provide exciting new activities for the group members which they will have the freedom to choose for example sound baths, meditation, yoga and other activities to support their health and wellbeing.

This support group will be facilitated by local Newquay community members Emma and Tuesday. What attracted Emma to work with Georgia’s Voice was the work the charity do to support suicide prevention. 34.6% of young women have had thoughts of suicide in their lifetime. Tuesday added that she has had experience with suicidal thoughts and jumped at the opportunity to join Georgia’s Voice to provide young women a safe place to talk, be or just listen which is something that wasn’t there for her when she needed it most.

Around one in five women have a common mental health problem such as anxiety and depression. These sessions are very informal and often just a chat about our week and how we are feeling. Emma is most excited about offering our members a nonjudgmental space to explore mental health related arts and crafts, and activities based around coping mechanisms for poor mental health days.

These groups are great for peer to peer support which is a fundamental tool when living with a mental health problem. Oftentimes it’s difficult knowing where to find valuable support. Tuesday and Emma are ready to help with signposting to professional mental health services as well as helping members access Georgia’s Voice talking therapies.

Please join us on the 13th May from 6.30pm where we will be hosting an informal drop in open session. You are welcome to bring a friend, colleague or sibling for this drop in! Join us to find out more about Georgia’s Voice, what a session might look like & how we can help support you. Groups will be running Monday’s every fortnight. they are free, informal & safe accepting spaces. We look forward to seeing you soon!
