A fellow Lion who inspired Lions International’s District 105SW 1st Vice District Governor to run this year’s London Marathon, is having his name added to the Wall of Hope at the University of Plymouth’s Centre of Excellence for Brain Tumour Research.
Lion Kevin Towill, who spent almost a year in hospitals and rehab centres before coming home to Newquay earlier this year following the removal of a brain tumour was someone 1st VDG Phil Bunt was inspired by when he applied for his charity place in this year’s Marathon. Both are members of Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club and, at their recent meeting at The Lanherne Pub, Phil presented Kevin with a replica of the plaque that will form part of the Wall of Hope during the next few weeks.
Phil said: “It is incredible to see how Kevin has been able to rebuild his strength over the past few months and he is now active again in th community as a Lion and Cornwall Councillor.”
Kevin added: “It’s an honour to see my name on the plaque but a big thank you needs to go to all those in the medical profession that have helped me in my ongoing recovery. To see the amount that was raised in my honour is quite humbling.”
