Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club has donated £1,000 to local good causes as part of Lions International Hunger Week, with two grants of £500 each awarded to organisations tackling food poverty and supporting those in the Newquay area.

The donations have been made to Newquay Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust network, and Pot Noodle Ministries, which meets at the Newquay Wave Church Storehouse.

Newquay Foodbank provides emergency food parcels to individuals and families facing crisis, working in partnership with local agencies to offer short-term support while also helping people access longer-term solutions to poverty. As part of the Trussell Trust, the foodbank plays a vital role in supporting some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

Pot Noodle Ministries offers a warm, welcoming space for people in need, providing hot meals, drinks, and companionship. Meeting regularly at the Newquay Wave Church Storehouse, the group focuses not only on alleviating hunger but also on reducing isolation and offering pastoral support to those who may be struggling.

Lion Monique Collins, a member of Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club, said:

“Hunger affects people in many different ways, often hidden in plain sight. These two organisations do incredible work, not just by providing food, but by offering dignity, kindness, and hope. We are proud to support them during Lions International Hunger Week and to play our part in helping our local community.”

Lions International Hunger Week is an annual global initiative that highlights the work Lions Clubs do worldwide to combat hunger and food insecurity. Across the week, Lions focus on fundraising, donations, and hands-on service projects that support foodbanks, meal programmes, and sustainable solutions to hunger at both local and international levels.
