Lions Clubs vehicles out and about
As Lion Phil Bunt of Newquay Towan Blystra Lions was driving the club’s van back from helping out at Newquay Foodbank, he realised the vehicle he was following was the minibus owned and run by neighbouring club, Newquay Lions. He couldn’t resist the opportunity for a photo and so, when the vehicles stopped, he and mini bus driver Lion Chris Dent found an obliging holiday maker to take a photo of them with the two vehicles..
In Newquay, the two Lions Clubs have almost 60 members in total and this enables them to get involved in numerous service and fund raising activities. The Lions mini bus is in regular use helping support not-for-profit groups that have the need for transport and recently it was used in support of a iSightCornwall and Towan Blystra Lions buddy scheme on a wildlife walk at St Mawgan. The small van, that was donated to the club by the trustees of the charity DISC when it closed at Christmas 2024, is being used for various tasks including transporting fund-raising equipment and helping Newquay Foodbank with their deliveries and collections.
Lion Phil said: “Both clubs are rightly proud of the services they are able to offer and support in and around Newquay. Our vehicles are just part of this but we know from the feedback we get how much appreciated they are.”
Lion Chris added: “I’ve been driving the mini bus regularly for some time now and it’s a very rewarding experience. Other Lions also help with the driving and, as a club, we’d very much appreciate anyone who would like to help us by joining the Lions and becoming one of our regular drivers.”
