Those attending the annual Xmas Community Lunch organised by Newquay Towan Blystra Lions will be guaranteed a cracking time thanks to the generosity of a Cornish scaffolding firm.
Anthony Whyte of ARW Scaffold Contracting made a surprise visit to the Lions at their meeting last Wednesday and left them with 150 luxury crackers for the event. It is the second year that Anthony has supported the lunch, which gives local residents and their families who may otherwise not enjoy some of the more fun trappings of the season, the chance to socialise and enjoy good food and entertainment.
Lion President, Danny Baize (seen receiving the crackers – right) with Vice President Chris Bernard, said: “The lunch is able to be put on in the way it is because of the help and generosity shown by so many individuals and businesses every year. Crackers always add to the fun of the day and we are grateful to Anthony for his assistance again this year.”
Tickets for the lunch, which takes place on Friday December, 8, 12-12.30pm at The Sandy Lodge, can be obtained from The Newquay Voice office in Trevena Terrace, Newquay (next to Sainsbury’s) or ring 0845 833 4981. The £7.50 payable includes a three course Xmas lunch, sherry or soft drinks on arrival, wine with the meal, tea and coffee plus entertainment from Tom ‘In Dreams’ Birchall, Bingo and raffle.
